For many people, Twitter has come to replace RSS as the go-to way to get the latest news, reviews, and how-tos, and many of you have told us that's how you keep up with iMore these days -- or @iMore more precisely. We love that, and we figured we could have a little #FollowFriday fun to help us reach even more fantastic readers on Twitter, and give something back to everyone who considers us worthy of a follow.

So we're going to have a little treasure hunt!

Starting tomorrow, Saturday July 14, once a day for the next week (7 days), each iMore editor will take a turn tweeting out a link to the treasure hunt accessory of the day (and they'll be good ones!). Follow our Twitter streams and re-tweet the treasure hunt accessory tweet each day. Successfully find and retweet all 7 of them, and you're automagically entered to win. There'll be 7 winners, one for each accessory.

And If that's not enough, give us a #FollowFriday and you'll also be entered to the win the grand prize -- all 7 of them!

So here's what you have to do:

Last Night, or: How I Learned to Loathe the Loss of Dedicated ...

Before last night I was ready for the transition. I was ready for that inevitable evolution where tablets and smart phones?exclusively?rule the portable video game space. Where your Vitas and DSs are ancient relics of a long-lost era, destined to collect dust in attics across the globe and remembered forever as the final forays into the dedicated handheld gaming market.?Before last night I was ready for an i-Device to become my all-in-one item that does it all.

Before last night, I was bloody wrong.

So tantalizingly treacherous

My revelation is represented with two separate instances, each involving the same system. The first is a story of ultimate uncertainty. With Gamers Association receiving an App Store code from one of our publisher contacts, I immediately took interest as I will be away on vacation next week, secluded from consoles. I inquired about the Game That Must Not Be Named (for narrative secrecy only, as I?m sure it?s spectacular), questioning about its compatibility with my admittedly-outdated 2nd Generation iPod Touch (I?m cheap; I know). An iTunes description claimed it would work with any iOS device sporting 3.1 or later, yet my past experiences created the skeptic that I currently am. And the answer? Maybe, but it might not be optimal. This vague position comes from the publisher?s own mouth, no less. So I tried it, and they were right: performance was stuttery to the point of being unplayable. Now keep these moments in mind as we move to #2.

You recall my upcoming getaway? Great! As this outing has been an annual family affair since before my baby years, I?ve learned to plan and prepare for my time spent in solitude. This year I considered doing something I?d done before, digging out the old Game Boy Advance (my DS?regrettably within the hands of a happy kid from Craigslist) and reliving a legend or two. But bringing a Game Boy Advance isn?t just bringing a Game Boy Advance. No, it?s bringing a Game Boy Advance and any potential cartridges I might play and a bunch of AA batteries for extra insurance and that little light add-on as this ain?t hoity-toity SP AND?my super-sexy bag with strap to stash it all in.

Or, I could jailbreak that iPod and emulate my path to happiness.

All that raw code?I must be a badass hacker now!

I chose option B, and the decision was a slow-burning disaster.

Unaware of your technical upbringing, I?ll be brief with the background. No hands-on electronics master myself by any means, I was a wee bit worried about the underground process. To my delighted surprise, however, the right software makes jailbreaking itself a simple step-by-step operation that?s over in seconds. Only when I branched out to reach for what I truly wanted did I discover my roadblocks.

Holding buttons and rebooting my iPod like some makeshift spin-off of Simon Says, I sighed with relief as the jailbreak completed correctly?but then I dealt with a few freezes. And there?s the Loader, which gets me Cydia, which needs some already-researched sources, which results in the emulator, though don?t forget the BIOS, and, wait, where are the ROMs? Failed installation attempts from host sites that are apparently no longer in service struck me, my second-to-last straws, so I settled for A Link To The Past?(a game I do own, dear FBI readers). A smile of nostalgia sprang across my face as I peered at the pixelated Link?and I lost all level of interest in an instant.

The same Mario you?ve always loved, only worse!

With a small screen setup to accommodate the cramped controller interface, I wondered why I was going through so much trouble for a sub-par playthrough of these classic adventures. And this is where it hit me, when I realized I?d been wrong all along. I?ll accept an Apple or Android for Angry Birds, but I never want it for a grand Zelda experience. Nostalgia aside, the absence of tactile feedback brings about slippery mechanics not at all ideal, and I cringe to imagine an every-jump-matters Mario platformer with touch controls. The battery, too, proves problematic. While I can?t fairly state how a new machine would hold up after hours of heavy gaming, my power plunged in no time. That said, who wants to ration their playtime if extended sessions mean sacrificing access to emails, the Internet, or even essential phone service?

And that initial tale? Why, it?s a quick story about what might be the worst offense of do-it-all devices: uncertainty. Without something specifically created for and assigned to gaming, subsequent iterations and updates with state-of-the-art hardware continuously split the market, making older machines incompatible. Incompatible, but only sometimes. Only maybe. Only it might not be optimal. And that fact, that no way of knowing, is rightfully ridiculous.

When I do rediscover my Game Boy Advance for this vacation, that system with its cartridges and its batteries and its light and its bag, I know I can play anything available for it, regardless of release dates at launch or toward the tail-end of the life cycle. I know that no power doesn?t mean I?m excommunicated from the rest of the world. I know my Game Boy Advance is good for one thing and one thing only: playing games. That?s good enough for me, and I never want it any other way.

Stolen Best Buy passwords being used to buy stuff

4 hrs.

If you've got an online account with Best Buy, it might be best to change your password ASAP: hacking attempts of accounts on BestBuy.com are on the rise, and the retailer has alerted affected?customers about the problem, via an email.?

On Best Buy's customer?discussion board, a thread called "Account hacked" shares the tales of some?who have been victims of the hack:

My account was just hacked on the 9th. Ordered 6 XBOX/PSN cards totalling $300.?Couldn't verify the orders I guess w the ID code on the credit card is my guess.

Another customer posted July 11:

This happened to me tonight.?Luckily I canceled the order right away. I changed my BB password and I think I'm probably going to remove my card from the online ordering so no one can place an order with automatic payment. I thought it was odd an online account that I haven't used or accessed since december of last year was compromised. Now I'm starting to see a pattern. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for the $200 worth of psn/itunes cards they ordered.

Best Buy started notifying customers by email last week about the problem. Its email (shown below)?said, in part:?

We are currently investigating increased attempts by hackers around the world to access accounts on?BestBuy.com?and other online retailers? e-commerce sites. These hackers did not take username/password combinations from any Best Buy system; they appear to be using combinations taken elsewhere in an attempt to gain access to?BestBuy.com?accounts. ?

The company goes on to say that if you've received?this email, "your?account may have been accessed by these hackers. We are taking action now to help protect your account; we have disabled your current password, and ask that you take a few minutes to reset it. "

Best Buy spokeswoman?Susan Busch said in an email to msnbc.com that, "along with a growing number of retailers around the world," the company is "seeing increased attempts by hackers to target customers online and compromise stored user information such as user names or passwords. These hackers did not take user name/password combinations from any Best Buy system. Instead, it appears as if they took information (user names/passwords) gleaned from other website systems and tried to gain access to Best Buy.com accounts using that information."

She also said:

?We are working to take care of our customers who were affected by these attacks by crediting their accounts for any unauthorized purchases and asking them to take the time to protect their online information by changing their passwords.? We also are proactively reaching out to customers who have not been affected by these hackers and reminding them of the importance of regularly changing their online information.

This?story was updated at 4:05 p.m. Thursday.

World of: The Demon Realm

Etherina

Fantasy, Technology and the Unknown collide in an all out war! Only those who are brave enough to step out of the normal will be able to rise.

This topic is an Out Of Character part of the roleplay, ?Etherina?. Anything posted here will also show up there.

I'll go over some of the basics here. The Demon Realm was given that name by Etherina, which saw demons pop out of it first during the demons invasion on Etherina. Inside The Demon Realm are seven levels, or seven different planes if one wishes to call them that. Each level holds different creatures, but the lower you go, the more dangerous it becomes. The demons of the demon realm go by a monarchy, a king/queen ruling over the demons in each level. Above each king/queen is an origin, a god-like figure for the demons, who are believed to be some of the oldest and most powerful demons in The Demon Realm.

The monarchy of the demons is simple. There is one origin per level, as well as a king/queen. The numbers increase as you descend the monarchy, like the prince/princesses are three each. Everyone is allowed to take two major roles per person to make it fair on everyone.

More information on the demon realm will go in here.

Also, here are some of the ranks of the demon realm just to give you all an idea of what to look forward to.

Origins: Level 1 to 2, 4 to 6 - Available. Level 3 Origin - Taken. Level 7 Origin - Taken.

Kings/Queens: Level 1 to 7: Available.

Prince/Princesses: Level 1 to 4, 5 to 7: Available. Level 5 Prince - Taken

Erm... That's all I can think of right now for the demons. If any of you guys know more about Monarchies, please add to this.

Edit: Also, on an added note, there is one origin per level. One king/queen per level, although this may become two depending on if the king or queen has a queen or king. The princes and princesses will be three per level.

Ouya Android game console raises $2 million in under 24 hours ...

The Ouya is a $99 video game console designed to connect to your TV. It runs Google Android and features a wireless controller, letting you play Android games on a big screen.

There are some big names attaced to the project including OLPC and Jambox designer Yves Behar and game industry veteran Julie Uhrman, so the project has raised a bit of buzz. Now it?s also raised a lot of money.

Yesterday the folks behind Ouya took to Kickstarter in hopes of raising $950,000 to get the product off the ground. In less than 24 hours, backers had pledged well over $2 million.

ouya

As of 11:10 this morning, the project had passed the $2.8 million mark.

Folks aren?t just throwing money at the Ouya. Around 20,000 people have pledged $95 or more to reserve one of the first game consoles once they start shipping in March, 2013. A smaller number has pledged $699 or more to get one of the developer edition models which could ship as soon as December, 2012.

The developers had originally promised to send units to the first 10,000 people that pledged $99 or more ? but that figure has been extended to 80,000? for now.

Since the project has 28 days to go until the fundraising campaign ends, the Ouya folks are looking at ?stretch goals.? Basically, since the original goal was quickly smashed, we could see additional software, hardware, or other features added.

The team is taking suggestions at?ideas@ouya.tv. There?s also a survey to see which games users would most like to see made available in the Ouya game store.

As of now, the Ouya is a box with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, HDMI, WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB 2.0.?It runs Android 4.0.
