Apple's signature earbuds rebranded for iPhone 5 as 'EarPods'

Yes, finally -- finally -- Apple's years-long headphone debacle may finally be at an end, with the introduction this morning of redesigned earbuds. Their new name: "EarPods." Like so many things from today's Apple press conference, the new earphones look an awful lot like a leak we saw earlier this month. Apple says the new earphones feature, "a breakthrough design for a more natural fit and increased durability, and an incredible acoustic quality typically reserved for higher-end earphones." As seen above, they feature a main and secondary grill on each "pod," and the iPhone version has an inline remote / microphone built-in along the wire. The set looks starkly different from past Apple earphone offerings -- no rubber, distinctly less visible metal, and an all-plastic outer shell.

Rather than create a plugged-up seal as most in-ear headphones do, the pods rest at the edge of your ear canal with the main grill directed straight into it. A port on the back of each bud helps airflow to enhance the midrange, while dual ports on the bottom of each stem helps the bass response. Overall, the intention is to maximize airflow for optimal sound quality. Apple claims the design results in, "overall audio quality [that's] so impressive, they rival high-end headphones that cost hundreds of dollars more." They're available today for purchase as a standalone, and will ship with the new iPod Touch, Nano, and iPhone 5. A standalone set with an inline remote / mic will cost you the same $29 price point of its predecessor -- and they're already available at the source link below.

  • Lionel Richie

Cool man Lionel claimed he was ‘more nervous’ than his daughter Nicole when first grandchild Harlow was born. Nicole and husband Joe Madden have since had a second mini Richie, Sarrow, and Lionel is affectionately known as ‘Popi’ or ‘Papa’. Cute!

    Lionel Richie
  • Janet Ellis

Janet earned her TV stripes on Blue Peter, and is now grandmother to popstar Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s children Sonny, Kit and Raymond. She told Parentdish that she was a very hands-on granny to Sophie’s three boys, saying: “I certainly do as much as I can, and yes, I really love it. And that's anything from picking one of them up from school, or going to sit with one of them while the other's going off and doing something, so they don't always have to be lumped in together, which I think is lovely for kids.”

    Janet Ellis
  • Goldie Hawn

And the award for all-time glamorous granny goes to…Goldie Hawn, who is a grandmother twice over to daughter Kate Hudson’s two children Ryder and Bing. She loves the tag grandmother, saying: “We could think 'grandmother' and think it's really old - or actually much younger. I just rip those titles away. I love being a grandmother. When I was pregnant I knew the exact right thing to do, having a baby, and I feel exactly the same about being a grandmother."

    Goldie Hawn
  • Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi became a mum in her teens, and became a grandma for the first time when her 16-year-old daughter gave birth, when Whoopi was just 34 herself. While she relishes life as a grandparent, she’s most certainly not up for adding great-grandma to her title, saying: “Great-grandchildren I’m not doing!”

    Whoopi Goldberg
  • Bob Geldof

We love Bob for saying what we were thinking when his daughter Peaches named her son, Astala. He told the press: “Yuck! What’s he going to be called in school? Ass? Stella? It’s a girl’s name, let’s face it.” That from a man who named his children Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom and Little Pixie…

    Bob Geldof
  • Steven Tyler

Yes, kids, that’s really your grandad on stage belting out Aerosmith songs. Being a grandfather hasn’t slowed Steven Tyler down: he invited his grandson Milo, and of course Milo’s mum, Steven’s daughter Liv to watch him perform in concert, complete with protective headphone for the little man of course.

    Steven Tyler
  • Keith Allen

While his daughter Lily is busy being a top secret mum in the countryside, her dad Keith is keeping everyone up to date with her news. After rumours circulated that Lily was pregnant with a sibling for baby Ethel, Keith was the one who confirmed the news during a TV interview, saying: “Yes, she’s pregnant.” Bet he got a right earful for that…

    Keith Allen
  • Jim Carrey

Jim’s daughter Jane made him a first-time granddad when she welcomed son Jackson in 2010. Super-proud Jim couldn’t help but share his excitement when the little lad made his grand arrival, completely stealing Jane’s thunder and tweeting his grandson’s picture himself!

    Jim Carrey
  • Harrison Ford

Imagine being able to say ‘Indiana Jones is my grandad’. Well, three children actually can, as Indy, aka Harrison Ford is a proud grandparent to Eliel, Giuliana and Ethan. Although, just to confuse things, they are actually older than Harrison’s adopted son Liam, his son with wife Calista Flockhart. Riiiigght.

    Harrison Ford
  • Katherine Jackson

When her son Michael died in 2009, Katherine was awarded custody of her late son’s three children, Paris, Prince and Blanket. Despite numerous rows, headlines and sensational fall-outs, Katherine has been a constant in the three children’s lives, and after yet another family fight which resulted in her temporaily losing custody of her three grandchildren, she was reinstated as their full-time guardian, which a judge saying she had been doing a 'terrific job as guardian and the children love her'.

    Katherine Jackson
  • Rod Stewart

With EIGHT children under his belt, who better to play the doting grandfather role than Rod? His daughter Kimberley gave birth to daughter Delilah in 2011, and Rod was first to gush about the family’s new arrival, even blabbing the baby’s name to the press, saying: “It's Delilah. I’ve been going around blabbing that for hours now!”

    Rod Stewart
  • Paul McCartney

Paul is an old hat at this grand-parenting lark - with five grandchildren from his two daughters Stella and Mary under his wing. If that wasn’t enough, he also held the 2006 title of ‘Sexiest Celebrity Grandparent’. Now if that isn’t an accolade, we don’t know what is…

    Paul McCartney
  • Tom Hanks

Anyone that describes their granddaughter as ‘magnificent’ deserves a firm place in our gallery. Tom summed up his first grandchild, Olivia, with that fabulous word when he appeared on TV shortly after the little girl was born to Tom’s son Colin and his wife, Samantha.

    Tom Hanks
  • Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne

The coolest celebrity granny and grandad on the block? Step forward Ozzy and Sharon, who are proud first time grandparents to baby Pearl, who is their son Jack’s daughter. Before Pearl made her arrival, Sharon declared there wasn’t going to be any of the ‘granny’ ‘grandma’ or ‘gran’ rubbish in her household, saying: “The baby's going to have to call me Shazza or Missus O!”

William Shatner's show to hit 20 more cities

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - William Shatner is taking his show further on the road, with a 20-city U.S. tour extension of "Shatner's World: We Just Live in It."

The 90-minute, one-man show explores the 81-year-old actor's life, playing Shakespearean stage characters, Captain Kirk and roles beyond.

The additional dates follow a three-week run at Broadway's Music Box Theatre from February 14 to March 4 and a 15-city run that ended in April.

Shatner's show received mostly positive reviews during its Broadway run.

Ben Brantley of the New York Times called the show "chatty, digressive and often amusing."

"Although he spends a fair amount of time getting in and out of a comfy-looking desk chair, and regales us with the story of a riding accident that injured his leg, Mr. Shatner appears hale and full of energy as he reminiscences about his professional and personal lives," he wrote.

In the New York Post, Elisabeth Vincentelli said: "It's on the rambling, ramshackle side - think of it as ?S#*! William Shatner Says' - but the star's admirers will gobble up this ham-and-cheese sandwich of a show."

Shatner, who has previously appeared on Broadway three times, said in a statement: "Performing for audiences on the road has been one of the most gratifying experiences I've ever had as an actor."

Blake Lively-Ryan Reynolds Wedding: How the Heck Did They Pull That Off?

How did a couple of huge celebrities - possibly even the hottest couple ever - like Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively possibly get married in secret?

The answer to that question is several-fold:

    Lovely Blake LivelyRy-Ry

    1. Location, location, location. Charleston, S.C., where Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds married Sunday night, is about as far from L.A. as you can get.

    2. Local vendors. An E! source says in recent few months, "celebrities have been deliberately going with non-Hollywood planners, caterers and locations."

Moreover, "In the South, wedding planners are used to being hush-hush and low-key about events no matter what. It's just how they do things."

    3. NDAs. This is just speculation, but stars often have any staff sign very strict non-disclosure agreements, punishable by seven-figure fines.

    4. Marriage license maneuvering. An employee working at Charleston County clerk's office said straight up that, "We didn't do Blake Lively."

However, in L.A. County and other locations, you can get a marriage license from a notary public; town clerks won't receive a copy for 1-2 weeks.

If Lively and Reynolds did so within a few days of their wedding, which is likely, no one except the one notary would know such a license existed.

    5. Secrecy. Even some guests didn't know what they were in for, having been told that they were headed to a belated birthday celebration for Lively.

She turned 25 on August 25. Ryan and Blake are notoriously private with their love lives in general, too. They don't flaunt it, no one asks and no one knows details.

That includes her Gossip Girl co-star and ex-boyfriend, Penn Badgley. Asked for details, he said, "I've only heard what you guys have heard."

Penn did say he's extremely happy for Blake, of course.

Taubman TBCL's JV to Manage 1.5 MSF Shopping Center in China ...

    September 10, 2012

    By Alex Girda, Associate Editor

Taubman TCBL and Beijing Wangfujing Department Store Co., Ltd are teaming up for a joint venture that will own a majority stake and manage an upcoming retail development in Xi?an, China. The complex will be located in the Xi?an Saigao City Plaza, a mixed-use project that is currently being developed by Shaanxi Fuli Real Estate Development Co. Ltd. Taubman TCBL is an entity formed in 2011, and it has chosen this particular project to be its first foray into the Chinese commercial real estate market.

Developer Shaanxi Fuli Real Estate will own the remaining shares of the shopping center that has an opening date set for Q3 of 2015. The seven-level facility is the retail component of the Xi?an Saigao City Plaza, a sprawling mixed-use development which will additionally include a five-star hotel, a Holiday Inn Express, a SOHO residential tower, two towers of serviced apartments and an office structure. The gross building area of the Saigao City Plaza, including parking, is a whopping 5.9 million square feet.

The shopping mall will occupy 1.5 million square feet at the mixed-use project, offering up a gross leasable area of approximately 1 million square feet. An anchor tenant is already in place for the yet-to-be-built retail facility as 273,000 square feet of space are reserved for the Wangfujing Department Store. The six-level department store will also include a supermarket, while the entire mall will also feature a supermarket space, a movie theater, and up to 300 shop spaces featuring moderate to high-end names. Parking at the facility will be ensured by 2,000 underground parking spots, while easy access is provided by the mixed-use development?s close proximity to the intersection of subway lines 2 and 4, in Xingzheng Zhongxin station. The Airport Expressway, Airport High-Speed Line and Xihuang Expressway also facilitate access to the massive development.

Developer Shaanxi Fuli Real Estate Development has chosen the Xi?an area due to its regional importance as a cultural, industrial and educational focal point in China?s central-Northwest. The area also houses the country?s space exploration program, as well as a number of facilities for research and development. Xi?an?s 8 million-strong metro area has been on a consistent upward trend GDP-wise with an annual growth rate of its per capita GDP of over 20 percent for the last four years, making it the fourth best region in China.

Taubman TCBL is a China-based subsidiary of Taubman Asia, itself a division of Taubman Centers, Inc., a real estate investment trust engaged in the development, leasing and management of regional and super regional shopping centers. The company, headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, currently operates across the United States and Asia through its Hong Kong-based, Taubman Asia subsidiary. Beijing Wangfujing Department Store (Group) Co., Ltd is the largest retail group specializing in department store development in Mainland China. The entity currently manages a portfolio comprised of 25 department stores in 17 locations across China. Developer Shaanxi Fuli Real Estate Development Co. Ltd is a Shaanxi-based company that deals with high-quality development. The company is responsible for the development of approximately 6.5 million square feet-worth of mixed-use projects bearing the name SAIGAO.
